"You don't expect meals of this standard to be served in a club." That is one of the most common reactions overheard from first-time diners at Essence at The Dickson Tradies. But, The Dickson Tradies is no ordinary club and Essence is certainly not your usual club bistro, which is why our diners continue to come back again and again.
Situated in the heart of the famous Dickson food precinct where dining standards continue to rise and competition becomes ever keener, Essence has evolved to become the destination for those seeking that rare and valued combination of truly excellent meals served in convivial surrounds at the right price-point.
For years, Canberrans have woken early on a Saturday morning to shop at the EPIC markets where Crookwell butcher Phil McCormack sells the highest quality meats. Today, his acclaimed Lost River Produce shop in Dickson is Essence's exclusive supplier, which means every cut of steak and every slice of lamb or pork is sourced from right across the road.
In continued dedication to supporting Canberra's truly remarkable local produce, every herb used in preparation of the à la carte menu is grown hydroponically in our on-site garden and carefully tended to by our team of chefs. Our support of all things local doesn't end with the food, though, because every wine sold is a product of Canberra's nationally renowned cool-climate winemakers, from local icons Graeme Shaw and Tim Kirk to Riesling champion Ken Helm and rising star Nick O'Leary. The Tradies is the only Canberra club where local wines are sold exclusively and the Essence wine list is a roll-call of some of the very best.
Meals at Essence are prepared just for you, not for a production line, and combined with the best local ingredients and truly dedicated staff, when you visit for lunch (12pm to 2pm) or dinner (5:30pm to 9pm) any day of the week you're not just visiting us for a meal - you're visiting for an experience.
